Decarbonisation of the Nordic building stock and setting limit values

New report strengthens direction for climate requirements for construction

Publiceret 09-09-2024

New report investigates approaches for monitoring building stock decarbonisation and for setting CO2-eq limit values for buildings. The report strengthens the direction for a more harmonised approach across the Nordic countries and Estonia.

Key Insights on CO2e Emissions Monitoring and Limit Values

A new report focusing on the Nordic countries - Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Estonia - provides insights into setting limit values for CO2e emissions from buildings and for monitoring CO2e emissions from the building sector. It outlines methods for emissions monitoring and emphasises the need for harmonised approaches across the region.

The report provides concrete recommendations for further advancing and harmonising setting limit values for CO2e emissions from buildings and for monitoring CO2e emissions from the building sector

Harmonising Life Cycle Assessment Methods Across Nordic Countries

The report maps current national and industry-specific CO2e reduction plans, and it explores variations in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methods among the countries. It also reviews existing and planned limit values for buildings, offering recommendations for a more harmonised assessment framework. By aligning these assessments, the report aims to facilitate further work on seeking harmonisation across the Nordics in terms of assessment method and limit value setting.

Collaborative Efforts and Contributors to the Nordic Sustainability Report

The report has been prepared by Sweco Denmark, BUILD – Aalborg University, Sweco Sweden, Sweco Norway, Sweco Finland, EFLA from Iceland, and LCA Support from Estonia. The report has been prepared for the Finnish Ministry of Environment and is part of the Nordic Sustainable Construction project under the Nordic Council of Ministers.
